Douro Wine
Qta. D. Mafalda Grande Reserva
“The Grande Reserva (nível 3) Quinta Dona Mafalda is an equal mixture of Alicante Bouschet and a eld blend from old vines (…) The winemaker said the «nível 3« is the highest level granted by the IVDP (the regulatory authority for Douro and Port wines).”
“(…)The youngest of the submissions from Christie’s in this report, (…) It has some other stylistc similarities to its siblings: judicious use of oak, mid-palate nesse and freshness. One place it does differ is the avor prole – the Alicant here gives a darker and beeer nuance on the nish that adds a little complexity. As with it’s siblings, this does need to demonstrate some ability to improve, as to which there is some doubt, but this seems to have the most potential of the group, making it the biggest bargain and the best wine. (…) this is an attractive purchase at the price point. I’m leaning up on this for the moment.”
